Comparative คือ การเปรียบเทียบขั้นกว่า ใช้ระหว่างคนสองคนหรือสิ่งสองสิ่งที่เป็นคำนามต่างๆ เช่น
longer [ยาวกว่า]
taller [สูงกว่า]
fatter [อ้วนกว่า]
more beautiful [สวยกว่า]
โดยรูปประโยคที่ใช้คือ comparative (-er, more)+ than
Sarah's hair is longer than Tara's hair.
Peter is taller than Billy
Mike is fatter than Ken
Sally is more beautiful than Anna
Superlative คือ การเปรียบเทียบขั้นสูงสุด ใช้ในการเปรียบเทียบนามที่มีจำนวนตั้งแต่ 3 ขึ้นไป มีความหมายว่า ที่สุด เช่น
the longest [ยาวที่สุด]
the tallest [สูงที่สุด]
the fattest [อ้วนที่สุด]
the most beautiful [สวยที่สุด]
โดยรูปประโยคที่ใช้คือ the + superlatives (-est, most)
Sarah's hair is the longest in the class.
